INSTRUMENTS FOR VESTIBULAR ORGAN DIAGNOSTICS NYSTAGMOGRAPHY
Extensive literature based on research and clinical experience exists about the value of Vestibular Organ Diagnostics for evaluation of pilots and of course for diagnostics of various neurological diseases.
Our program consists of multi-channel nystagmograph recorders, optokinetic stimulators, caloric stimulators and the rotary chair system, computer controlled.

List No. 1900 ELMED Rotary Chair System, computer controlled with optokinetic stimulator and connection to a multi-channel nystagmograph.
The ELMED Rotary Chair System Features:
* Simple operation, thus suitable for clinics and hospitals.
* Electronically controlled motors by means of the computerized control unit.
* Noiseless operation due to a high precision gear mechanism.
* The ENG signals are fed to the nystagmograph via mercury sliding contacts.
* The patient chair is furnished with an adjustable head rest, back and arm rests.
* The control unit contains the control and drive circuitry and is housed in a compact 19-inch case.
* A recording output is provided to enable recording of the chair motion as well.
VESTIBULAR STIMULATION PROGRAMS
ROTARY STIMULATION
|
|
![]() |
| On actuation of the start button, the patient is accelerated steadily for 60 s with 1.5°/s² at a rotational speed of 90°/s. After a freely selectable adaptation time, a steady deceleration of 1.5°/s² is released by depression of a button. The chair comes to a standstill within 60 s. | In addition to this, the quick-acting brake can be activated at any time. The examination can be carried out with clockwise or counterclockwise rotation. |
SINUSOIDAL WAVE OSCILLATORY STIMULATION
![]() |
![]() |
| The chair oscillates with a linearly increasing sinusoidal amplitude to reach the preselected angle within 180 s. An amplitude of ±150° can be set. The pendular motion is continued, with a constant period and a constant amplitude, for the purpose of adaptation. There is the choice of a linear deceleration lasting 180 s or a rapid deceleration (brake). | The various motion functions are indicated by pilot lamps.
|
OPTOKINETIC STIMULATION
For the purpose of optokinetic stimulation, the special drum is connected to its stand. The control unit is then switched to the drum drive. All of the functions described beforehand can now be executed with the special striped drum.

CALORIC STIMULATOR
The ELMED OTOFLUSH Water Heater which connects to the main water supply is ideally suitable for this purpose.
MULTI-CHANNEL RECORDER
Three-channel recorder with multi-speed, two channels for nystagmography with third channel for possible other recordings (chair motions, etc.). Eight recording speeds, ranging from 1.25 mm/s to 100 mm/s, record on thermo-sensitive paper (120 mm wide). On the three-channel catod ray tube, the signals are displayed prior to or during recording.
